Maria Pajuelo

Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Technology and Scientific Office at FairJourney Bio, Maria holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Murcia, Spain, and a PhD in Biotechnology from the Catholic University of Portugal. Her career in antibody research began in 2006 at Ablynx, a Belgian biotech company (acquired by Sanofi in 2018), where she was instrumental in identifying Nanobodies® (single-domain antibodies derived from camelids).

As a Scientist-Team Leader at Ablynx, Maria led major research initiatives targeting over 100 different therapeutic targets. In 2012, Maria co-founded FairJourney Bio, a renowned CRO specialized in end-to-end antibody development services. As Chief Scientific Officer, she built the company from the ground up, establishing laboratories for antibody discovery and engineering, and mentoring a top scientific team, developing innovative antibody services and technologies, and expanding the client portfolio. As EVP of the Scientific Office and Technology she is responsible for scientific direction and technology development across FairJourney Bio’s three centers of excellence (Porto, Cambridge and San Diego). 

Maria is a co-inventor on multiple patents and patent applications related to antibody technology, and she has co-authored 13 peer-reviewed publications.
